Model-driven software migration

Model-Driven Software Migration Andreas Fuhr, Tassilo Horn University of Koblenz-Landau Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg Abstract: In this paper we propose model-driven techniques to migrate legacy systemsinto Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA). The proposal explores how querying andtransformation techniques on TGraphs enable the integration of legacy assets into anew SOA. The presented graph-based approach is applied to the identification andmigration of services in an open source Java software system.

Dental Care for the Patient with Bipolar Disorder • David B. Clark, BSc, DDS, MSc (Oral Path), MRCDC • Chronic mental illness and its treatment carry inherent risks for significant oral diseases. Given the shift in treatmentregimens from the traditional institutionally based approach to more community-focused alternatives, generaldental practitioners can expect to see and be asked to treat patients with various forms of psychiatric disorders. Onesuch group consists of patients with bipolar disorder (including type I bipolar disorder or manic-depressive disor-der). The purpose of this paper is to acquaint the dental practitioner with the psychopathological features of bipo-lar disorder and to highlight the oral health findings and dental management considerations for these patients.Bipolar disorder is considered one of the most treatable forms of psychiatric illness once it has been diagnosedcorrectly. Through a combination of pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and life-adjustment skills counselling, thesepatients are better able to understand and cope with the underlying mood swings that typify the condition and inturn to interact more positively and progressively within society as a whole. Both the disease itself and its variouspharmacologic management modalities exact a range of oral complications and side effects, with caries, peri-odontal disease and xerostomia being encountered most frequently. It is hoped that after reading this article thegeneral dental practitioner will feel more confident about providing dental care for patients with bipolar disorderand in turn to become a vital participant in the reintegration of these patients into society.

Title: BMI as a determinant for metabolic-related changes in resistant hypertension Authors: Isabella Fagian Pansani a; Ana Paula Cabral de Faria, PharmD, PhD a, Natália R. Barbaro, PharmD, PhD a, Andréa R. Sabbatini, PharmD, PhD a, Rodrigo Modolo, MD, PhD a; Heitor Moreno, MD, PhD a,. Affiliations: aLaboratory of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Campinas, Campinas, SP, Brazil. Place where it was held: Laboratory of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Campinas, Campinas, SP, Brazil. ABSTRACT Background and objective: Obesity is a common feature of resistant hypertension (RHTN) and it is considered a strong risk factor for the lack of blood pressure control. Moreover, increased aldosterone levels have been associated with impaired glucose metabolism and may interact with adipose tissue deregulating inflammatory adipokines such as leptin. This study aimed to verify the influence of obesity in aldosterone and leptin plasma levels as well as in markers of glucose metabolism in RHTN subjects. Patients and methods: Ninety-one resistant hypertensive patients were divided into two subgroups by the mean BMI: (i) a more obese (OBS, N=41, BMI>31.5 kg/m2) and (ii) a leaner group (LNR, N=50, BMI<31.5 kg/m2). We determined body composition by bioimpedance (BIA 450). Fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) as well as aldosterone (radioimmunoassay) and leptin (enzyme immunoassay) levels were also evaluated. Results: OBS subgroup showed altered glucose metabolism by fasting glucose (129±48 vs. 107±32 mg/dL, p=0.04) and glycated hemoglobin (7.6±2.3 vs. 6.8±1.9%, p=0.03). Plasma aldosterone (137.9±102.0 vs. 92.6±67.9 pg/ml, p=0.03) as well as leptin levels (24.4±17.2 vs. 36.4±23.5 ng/ml, p=0.01) were also higher in OBS compared with LNR group. Multiple linear regression indicated that glucose level is independently associated with obesity in RHTN patients. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrated that a greater BMI may be determinant for deregulating glucose metabolism as well as aldosterone and leptin levels in resistant hypertensive subjects. Keywords: Refractory hypertension; obesity; diabetes; leptin; aldosterone. INTRODUCTION

„Gemeinsam Schicksale bewältigen" SelbstHilfeVerband - FORUM GEHIRN e.V.

Mapping antibiotic-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates in Metropolitan To-ronto: Issues of scale, positional accuracy and confidentiality. Can J Infect Dis 1997;8(5):273-278. The primary ob-jective of this paper was to investigate the methodological implications of mapping Neisseria gonorrhoeae using thepartial three-digit postal code instead of the complete six-digit postal code. The reporting locations of N gonorrhoeae iso-lates submitted from hospitals, doctor's offices, private and provincial laboratories, and sexually transmitted disease(STD) clinics were used as a model. Specifically, the paper focused on variations in geographical distributions of STDdata when mapped at different aggregations of postal code data and at different map scales. Such variations are of im-portance to those who analyze the spatial epidemiology of STDs, and the accessibility and use of health care services. This analysis showed that three-digit postal codes are useful in summarizing overall geographic distributions, butgreatly reduce positional accuracy, which can lead to inaccurate delineation of service areas and populations served. Thesix-digit postal code is more appropriate for detailed analysis addressing behavioural issues. The analysis demonstratedthat six-digits can be used without breaching individual confidentiality.

Just war and robots' killings

Simpson, Thomas W and Müller, Vincent C. (forthcoming), ‘Just war and robots' killings', Philosophical Quarterly, (online 07.08.2015). Just war and robot's killings Thomas W. Simpson & Vincent C. Müller online (7 August 2015) University of Oxford & Anatolia College/ACT Abstract May lethal autonomous weapons systems—‘killer robots'—be used in war? The majority of writers argue against their use, and those who have argued in favour have done so on a consequentialist basis. We de-fend the moral permissibility of killer robots, but on the basis of the non-aggregative structure of right assumed by Just War theory. This is necessary because the most important argument against killer robots, the responsibility trilemma proposed by Rob Sparrow, makes the same assumptions. We show that the crucial moral question is not one of re-sponsibility. Rather, it is whether the technology can satisfy the re-quirements of fairness in the re-distribution of risk. Not only is this pos-sible in principle, but some killer robots will actually satisfy these re-quirements. An implication of our argument is that there is a public re-sponsibility to regulate killer robots' design and manufacture.

Retrospective studies have suggested links between preconception dietand fertility, and more recently, a "Mediterranean" diet has been reported to increase pregnancy rates by up to40%. In addition, a prospective study examining increased intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fats demonstrated aquickened rate of embryo development after IVF. However, up to now, few prospective randomised controlled trialshave investigated the impact of periconceptional dietary interventions on fertility outcomes.

Meier* MDGI-Unit, University Hospital Liestal, Kantonsspital Liestal, CH-4410 Liestal, Switzerland Christoph Beglinger MDUniversity Hospital, Basel, Switzerland The pancreas plays a major role in nutrient digestion. Therefore, in both acute and chronicpancreatitis, exocrine and endocrine pancreatic insufficiency can develop, impairing digestive andabsorptive processes. These changes can lead to malnutrition over time. In parallel to thesechanges, decreased caloric intake and increased metabolic activity are often present. Nutritionaldeficiencies negatively affect outcome if they are not treated.Nutritional assessment and the clinical severity of the disease are important for planning anynutritional intervention. In severe acute pancreatitis, enteral nutrition with a naso-jejunal feeding tube and a low moleculardiet displays clear advantages compared to parenteral nutrition. Infectious complications, lengthof hospital stay and the need for surgery are reduced. Furthermore, enteral nutrition is less costlythan parenteral nutrition. Parenteral nutrition is reserved for patients who do not tolerateenteral nutrition.Abstinence from alcohol, dietary modifications and pancreatic enzyme supplementation issufficient in over 80% of patients with chronic pancreatitis. In addition, oral supplements arehelpful. Enteral nutrition can be necessary if weight loss continues. Parenteral nutrition is veryseldom used in patients with chronic pancreatitis.

Microsoft word - surgical masks & respirators.doc

3M TechUpdate Surgical Masks & Respirators A respiratory protection issue for the health care industry There recent outbreak of Swine Influenza A (H1N1) virus has generated major interest in respiratory protection for biohazards that may be spread through the air. General infection control procedures have been in use for decades, but more attention has been paid to the respiratory protection aspect in recent years. This first started with tuberculosis (TB) concerns, followed by Hantavirus, anthrax, sudden acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), avian flu (H5N1) and most recently, Swine Influenza A (H1N1) virus. These biohazards may become airborne; perhaps as the agent itself such as an anthrax spore, or as part of other airborne material such as dusts, mists droplets and aerosols. In fact, rarely does the bioaerosol exist as a naked organism. Wearing appropriate respiratory protection may reduce inhalation of these bioaerosols. There has been a good deal of confusion in the Health Care Industry in regards to what is appropriate respiratory protection and product selection for specific applications. The two types of product involved in this confusion are the surgical mask and the respirator. Differences between respirators and surgical masks The biggest difference between a respirator (a respiratory protective device that meets the requirements of AS/NZS1716) and a surgical, medical, or patient care mask is the intended use. Respirators are designed to help reduce the wearer's respiratory exposure to airborne contaminants such as particles, gases or vapours. Particulate respirators are used to reduce exposure to particles that are small enough to be inhaled - particles less than 100 microns (μm) in size down to nanometre size. This includes airborne particles that may contain biological material, e.g. mould, Bacillus anthracis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the SARS virus, etc. Surgical masks (even those that meet Australian Standard AS 4381 for surgical masks) do not have adequate filtering and/or fitting attributes to provide effective respiratory protection for the wearer to this range of particle sizes. They are designed to help prevent contamination of the work environment or sterile field from particles generated by the wearer (e.g.

SWS FACT SHEET The Menstrual Cycle: A Feminist Lifespan Perspective Prepared by the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research www.menstruationresearch.org I. Introduction A. Why Menstruation Matters The Menstrual Cycle is one of the most important biological differences between females and males, one that has been used – in many contexts — to justify discrimination against women and girls. Thus, the more clearly we understand the biological and social significance of the menstrual cycle for both women and men, the better we understand the fundamental arrangements of human society. Challenging the shame and secrecy surrounding the menstrual cycle, encourages embodied consciousness, or a more meaningful and complex appreciation of bodies across the lifespan. Interdisciplinary menstrual cycle research, especially studies that explore the psychosocial dimensions of menstruation in diverse cultural settings, is an emerging subfield. Some menstrual activists and menstrual cycle researchers refer to "menstruators" instead of women when referring to those who menstruate. This linguistic choice locates menstruation beyond the confines of gender as socially constructed and expresses solidarity with women who do not menstruate (due to illness, age or some aspect of their physiology) and transgender men and genderqueer individuals who do in spite of their gender identity. Refusing to assume who does and does not menstruate is one way of challenging the rigid gender binary that perpetuates privilege and oppression (Bobel, 2010). B. How the Menstrual Cycle Works Most menstrual cycles are 21-35 days long but variability is common after menarche (the first period) and also before menopause. Each menstrual cycle is created by a unique egg and its surrounding cells; these produce hormones under careful feedback control by brain and pituitary hormones. A usual menstrual cycle begins with 2-6 days of vaginal blood loss (called a "period" or "flow") as the uterine lining is shed. Whole period blood loss averages 8 soaked regular menstrual products (40 ml) (Hallberg, Hogdahl, Nillson, & Rybo, 1966). Despite cultural concepts of regularity, a third of women, once a year have a period two weeks early or late (Munster, Schmidt and Helm, 1992). From low levels during flow, estrogen rises to a midcycle peak over 9-20 days. Next, a pituitary Luteinizing Hormone (LH) peak triggers the release of an egg (ovulation). Following ovulation, progesterone production rises steeply while estrogen decreases minimally (Nielsen, Brixen, Bouillon, & Mosekilde, 1990) until both decrease at the next flow. The luteal (post-ovulation) phase normally lasts 10-14 days (Vollman, 1977) but ovulatory disturbances are common (Bedford 2010). C. Menstrual Attitudes & Representations Though menstruation is a biological reality, culture-bound values shape its meaning and management. Though there is not a comprehensive cross-cultural comparison of menstruation, anthropologists have reported extensively on various cultural practices surrounding menstruation ranging from severe social restriction to special respect and privilege for menstruating women (Mead, 1949; Shuttle & Redgrove, 2005; Knight, 1991). In most cultures, menarche (the onset of menstruation) is viewed as differentiating males and females. Though uncommon, artistic and cultural menstrual references exist, such as bleeding wounds (in crucifixion or Dracula) (Mulvey-Roberts, 1998) or wolf bites in fairy tales (Bettelheim, 1976). In cinema, as early as 1966, To Sir with Love used a menstrual detail to test the protagonist's manhood, and more recently Superbad (2007) and No Strings Attached (2011) offered more subtle explorations of male responses to menstrual encounters. Meanwhile, novelists such as William Faulkner, Joyce Carol Oates, Erica Jong and Philip Roth and Stephen King (who exploited menstruation in the horror genre), included menstrual content. Artists such as Vanessa Tiegs and Judy Chicago used menstrual blood and menstrual products, respectively, to challenge menstrual silence and secrecy. In contemporary advertising venues, menstruation is most often coupled with dominant and recurring themes of secrecy and concern for restrictions on physical and social activity. In advertisements for drugs marketed for menstrual discomfort, the menstrual cycle is treated as a "hygienic crisis" (Brumberg, 1997), a medical condition, and a "problem" or malady requiring treatment (Tavris, 1992; Angier, 1999; Ussher, 2006; Vostral, 2008). One recent study, however, suggests that teen girls use their menstrual experiences as a "source of power" in their interactions with other girls as well as boys (Fingerson, 2006).

GUIDELINES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF THE INFANT WITH NEONATAL ABSTINENCE SYNDROME Background Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) is a syndrome of drug withdrawal observed in infants of mothers physically dependent on drugs. Also known as neonatal withdrawal syndrome or passive addiction, NAS is a condition resulting from exposure in utero or postnatal exposure to opioids and other illicit drugs. It is more common in infants born to opioid-dependent women than in infants born to women dependent on other drugs or alcohol.1
